Old emails meant to be the ones that are not used.
Probably the ones that never come to the site.

Oh ok, I know what you are aming for , engagement reputation.
Could be something along those lines ...

I will ask them the percentage of non-responsive hotmail subscribers for the last 6 months.
Reoptin campaign might be a good idea here.

Yes, I'm beginning to think something like that as well .... although it seems strange after so many months of sending.
Still looking if they did not change anything in sending habbits, cause I'm not convinced.

Hi,
Same thing happening to me as well. Been sending for over 2 years across same IPs without any problems and all of the sudden they are rate limiting and blocking. They responded with the 421 error and also stating that some blocks are temperary and will be lifted soon, but seems still rate limited majorly.

Here is what they responded back with:
Windows Live Hotmail limits the number of email messages a particular IP can send within a time period. Based on an IP's reputation (built based on various data sources) it is allotted an allowed sending limit per unit time. When an IP (sender) exceeds its allowed limit, any further SMTP commands from the IP will receive the SMTP error code 421 from Windows Live Hotmail and the connection terminated.

The block against your IP is set to be lifted. At that time, you will be returned to the appropriate throttling level based on your reputation. Please note that this does not guarantee that your mail will be delivered to a user's inbox, only that it will no longer be throttled until it again exceeds its allowed limit.

BTW, whats SRD?

Sender reputation data.
They ask real users if an email is junk or not.
A measurement feature that works in charm to prevent spams and legit emails. :D

SNDS blocks do NOT necessarily mean Brightmail blocks. Brightmail is just 1 of the factors that comes into play when delivering to
hotmail.

BTW : We now see excessive blocks on all our IP's without clear reason, then they disappear again.
even transactional IP's have been RED and blocked, and just as strangely as they appeared they disappeared again.
No doubt in my mind that Hotmail is 'thinkering" with the system.
