Email Address Pre-Verification
« on: April 16, 2013, 03:09:22 PM »

I want to ask around the other members if anyone has any experience with pre-verifying email addresses without actually sending anything to them. I was looking into whether we could leverage pmta to achieve this, but the support team tells me not.

From what I understand they just initiate the connection, wait for the recipient mx server to respond, and then terminate the connection. Apparently this works for everyone except Yahoo.

Have you seen PMTA being used for this. If not any pointers in doing this en masse? Script examples perhaps. Or any general experiences?

We want to use it as a part of our compliance testing and on-boarding processes.

The year is 2013.
This is no more possible.

It's an abusive practice and no longer allowed.

Noone says it wont work.
It will but not for every ISP.
And your chance of getting false positives makes it a nightmare.

That's right, it is 2013, just capture email addresses the right way. :)
Many years back I used MX Valid software, ran command line syntax and only looked for non existent domains, you can do a lot with that tool if you can get hold of it. I think the company doesn't sell that but provides the service for a charge. And yes, don't use your IP for this kind of a tool.
