Yahoo blocks all mail on yahoo.co.uk only
« on: September 10, 2013, 03:41:06 PM »

Yahoo blocks all my emails that go to yahoo.co.uk, but accepts everything to yahoo.com. Why can be that?
Here is an excerpt form my accounting log:

It keeps happening from the start of sending. My max-msg-rate is 4/m. This is a brand new IP with two previous sends to 5k recepients.
On my first send I didn't log my transient errors, but there was no such problem, though msg-rate was set very high and yahoo accepted half of the emails at the rate of 10/m. Open rate was 15% with only 2 fbls.
Second sending had the same problems I am having now - yahoo.com accepted and inboxed all mail (~1500 recepients), yahoo.co.uk denied all (~3500 recepients)

Any thoughts will be welcome.

Also, one more question - tq errors don't have recipient email in them. Why?

tq = transient queue
t= transient recipient

Make sure to check the URL in the error:

I did check. I am not receiving any fbls.. And it wouldn't explain why yahoo.com accepts all my emails. Receiving IP or MTA doesn't seem to matter according to accounting file if you look..

Is PowerMTA handling your FBLs?  If so, are you sure it is set correctly?

Yes, as I mentioned in the first post, I did receive 2 fbl in the first mailing with this IP. So, I am sure fbl is set 100% correctly.

Yahoo.x are all different.
Just because you are able to send to yahoo.com doesnt mean the same for yahoo.co.uk :)

So they all maintain different reputation? But, then why recieving mta - mta6.am0.yahoodns.net (98.138.112.34) is the same?

It takes time to sync.
Wait for 6-8 hours,you will probably get the same results.
As you said,your ips are new.

Second mailing had the same problems and it was 2 days ago. Today is the same story. Can it take longer to sync? Any other possibilities come to mind?

Well,it is possible to have different reputations.
One of my cust was able to send to yahoo.com.tr very fast without any problems while he was junking on yahoo and seeing deferral errors.

Looks like you have misconfigured PowerMTA to route mail to the general yahoo.com gateway vs. using DNS or routing to the actual gateway that handles email for the domain yahoo.co.uk.

Yes, I think can confirm that. After digging, I've found out that removing yahoo.co.uk from yahoo.queue resolves the problem.

Here is my yahoo config that causes the problem:
Code: [Select]
domain-macro yahoo yahoo.com, ymail.com, rocketmail.com, yahoo.co.uk, yahoo.fr, yahoo.com.br, yahoo.$
yahoo.dk, yahoo.ie, yahoo.it, yahoo.se, yahoo.com.au, yahoo.co.id, sbcglobal.net, swbell.net, pacbel$

<domain $yahoo>
 queue-to yahoo.queue
</domain>

<domain yahoo.queue>
        route yahoo.com
        max-smtp-out   10
        max-msg-rate 5/m
        max-msg-per-connection    5
        retry-after 10m
        smtp-greeting-timeout  1m
        mx-connection-attempts 5
# log-connections yes
# log-commands yes
</domain>

Removing "route yahoo.com" setting prevents dns from resolving completely. How can I edit config, so that I can throttle mail for both yahoo and yahoo.co.uk at the same time, but whle being able to resolve dns properly at the same time?

Interestingly, log of yahoo.co.uk, with the error mentioned doesn't seem to show any dns problems:
Code: [Select]

I really don't understand is why this happening. Any help would be appreciated.

domain macros are used to simplify setting the same config directives across different related or unrelated domains.

Queue-to is used to create one queue for a variety of domains, all of which go to the same gateway, with the mail to the domains being treated as going to one domain.

You cannot use queue-to for domains that do not go the same gateway as such, you will want to either use a domain macro or define the domains separately in the config file.
