Server configuration for PMTA
« on: July 19, 2012, 10:21:25 AM »

I am planning to send approx. 1Million emails per day using PMTA. Anyone please suggest me the server configuration that I should have for this requirement?
Please advice me on the following things.

1) CPU  --> No.of cores , clock etc
2) RAM
3) HDD
4) Network speed --> Gbps or Mbps connection.

Kindly come up with a suitable configuration.

Thank you Calvin.  :)
So , the configuration below will be more than enough to send 10,00,000 emails DAILY.
1) Intel Core i3 2130 2x2(HT)x3.4+ GHz
2) 16 GB DDR3
3) 100 Mbps Network
4) 2x 1TB - SATA2

Please confirm this as I am going to purchase the server now. :)

Also, can I run PMTA on Centos 5 or OpenSUSE 11.4 ?

Let's not forget reputation.  While that server can send the messages, you're not going to get anywhere unless you have a well established sending reputation from your IPs.

Sure.. I will be using around 200 IPs/10 domains and will be sending at the above rate only after proper warm up and gaining reputation.

When I start sending at the maximum rate, my server should not be overloaded. That's why I posted here. :)
Hope the above configuration will suite my needs. right? :) I just need a confirmation from you guys.

The HDD is your bottle neck.  You may want a faster HDD setup.

anything rpm or deb based should be fine, but most customers use CentOS.

4) 2x 1TB - SATA2 is not a good choice.You dont need such a large space on a pmta server.
I would recommend getting a fast one.SSD would be the best.

Those 1tb SATA drives are going to really hurt your performance.
