Reverse DNS Failing
« on: September 13, 2012, 12:26:04 PM »

Hi Guys,
I went to www.mxtoolbox.com and put my mail server there only to find the messenge :

Reverse DNS Failed ! This is a Problem

I am having problems with my outbound emails as they leave our network never to reach their recipients in some cases. Please help.

I have same config.dat that one friend, and the same config in the DNS from godaddy. but the error apears to me and not for him, so i copy the config.dat as same he haves and justo modify the IP's and the domain names.

What is the significance of this error

Simply, not having reverse DNS set up properly can cause major delivery issues with the ISPs that check for valid reverse DNS records.

You need to make sure that you have proper ptr records in your DNS for the IP and host name used for each connection.

Dont even try to send more than 100 emails without proper RDNS setup as you might get blacklisted .

Is there any PMTA config settings as far as rDNS? In other words, do you need to specify reverse DNS for your MTAs and their associated IPs/domains? or is this only done on the 'dns hosting level'- thru godaddy/hover for example

RDNS is a setting you do on your dns zone.
